Stupid ordering
So it looks like if I add more than one tune a day, I can't count on the order they'll be displayed (see the Jacuzzi Boys orgy from late October 2008). Every time I edit something, they get reordered. I guess you get what you pay for.
VBR
Apparently, this thing I'm using to generate the feed freaks out on variable bit rates. No big deal, just ignore the bit rate when it looks like some whacked out number.

A (mostly) random collection of music that is relevant to me in some way. Maybe you'll like it, maybe not...

wEEn - Where'd the Cheese Go (parts 1 and 2)
Of the supposed 6 completed jingles written for Pizza Hut, I have two. Here, they're combined into one file for your listening pleasure.
From Deaner:
Earlier in 2002 we were hired by the largest advertising firm in the country to write music for a Pizza Hut commercial. Pizza Hut had hired them to come up with a whole new image to promote their new Pizza, 'The Insider' which had all the cheese inside the crust. In keeping in line with their new cutting edge image, the agency hired Ween to do the music, and we delivered in a big way. Unfortunately, they didn't like a single piece of the 6 tunes we submitted and they had us rewriting the song every day for a couple of weeks before they hired someone else. In my opinion, it is one of the best tunes we wrote all last year.

wEEn - It's Gonna Be A Long Night
the one and only time i ever watched one of those 'home makeover' shows, they were fucking some shit up, and the guy who i assume was the host walks up to the camera and yells, 'it's gonna be a long night', then they kick in this jam. very much a wtf moment for me.
this is likely going to be the start of a ween megapost, a greatest hits, if you will... or won't. just know that it's about to get brown up in here...

The King Khan & BBQ Show - Invisible Girl

Found this little slice of heaven out there today. Described by 'that site' as having 'all the primitive 60s punk stomp you'd expect from these guys, but the tempo is a little slower, and there's some old-school harmonic sweetness going on'.
'harmonic sweetness'? fuck you, idiots...

Lee Fields & The Expressions - Do You Love Me (Like You Say You Do)

This is some good shit I stumbled upon earlier in the week. A 60's sounding soul record made in the 00's. Never heard of Lee Fields? Me neither. You're welcome...

Melvins - Hooch

One of the best uses of nonsensical lyrics of all time. Jason Dooley had a vinyl copy of this, and I was at his house listening to it when he pulled out the sleeve. Hooch was the only song the lyrics were printed for, real big, taking up the whole printable space... genius. The Houdini record has some decent moments, but it ain't The Melvins' best work... just their most accessible. Maybe one day, we'll all find our own private ree land...

Chicks On Speed - Mind Your Own Business

i was visiting some friends last weekend and we were talking about this song we'd heard the previous saturday. it was, what we thought, a cover of Blondie's 'Hangin on the Telephone' by a band called The Nerves. we got put in our old people place by a twenty-nothing year old who called 'uh-uh' on us... that it was a Nerves song, then Blondie covered it. just when i think i know everything.... well, my friend rachel started trying to explain this song to me that was kind of robotic, germanic if you will, that was called 'Mind Your Own Business'. i, as usual the not-so-fucking-omniscient-music-geek-moron, called, 'yeah, that's chicks on speed'. she said no, it wasn't but couldn't remember the name of the band. i just figured she couldn't remember, and of course, i was wrong-headed. it's by The Delta 5.
so anyway, here's the Chicks on Speed version. if you need a genre, the kids are calling this 'electroclash'. fuck that.
now go drink another beer...it's two for one night at the ole barn...

Gary Numan/Tubeway Army - Are 'Friends' Electric?

Jack White's new 'supergroup' (The Dead Weather) has a digital single out. Side two is a cover of one of Gary Numan's biggest UK hits, "Are 'Friends' Electric?". I don't remember hearing this one before "Cars" was huge, but that means nothing as far as it having anyairplay in the states... I was in Van Halen/Kiss world back then, and wasn't paying attention to much else.
A Numan quote that has me thinking... "Polite conversation has never been one of my strong points. Just recently I actually found out that I'd got a mild form of Asperger's syndrome which basically means I have trouble interacting with people. For years, I couldn't understand why people thought I was arrogant, but now it all makes more sense."
I'm fucked...

Stuff leaks. That's the world we live in. The new (Frank Black-produced) Art Brut record leaked, and somehow it found its way to me. Here's track two, featuring Eddie Argos actually singing (a little).

Neko Case - The Next Time You Say Forever

A quick one here... New Neko Case record is out today (in North America at least). I've only made it through the whole thing once, and so far, I don't think it's as strong as 'Fox Confessor', but we'll see. It does close with the totally fucking awesome 31:39 Marais La Nuit, and the album cover is easily top ten all time.

Black Lips - I Saw God
A Black Lips song about drugs... go figure. The censoring is intentional if you're keeping score at home. As a whole, the song (esp. the drumming) is reminiscent of some other song about drugs, but whereas that song accelerates/deccelerates, the music spiraling like the experience of the user, this one just rides steadily, trippily along.

Negativland - Why Is This Commercial?

- "Hi, I'm me. I'm using this to sell you this." Ok, so McFly didn't have to die after all to make the cut. After yesterday's post, this song - particularly this phrase - was going through my head all day. I have to get it out, so I'm passing it along to one of you lucky folks (okay, I'm a realist, since I know there are really only 2 people who look at this, I'm passing it to you, RP & IK). As usual, lots going on in the background, including some Booper, and some samples that are shakier than Mr. Fox on a bad day. Enjoy.

Negativland - A Most Successful Formula (ft. Ricardo Montalban)
Another deathcast, this time featuring Ricardo Montalban. A fun little tune from one of Negativland's more blatant attacks on coporate advertising, and one of their most accessible records.
Will it take the death of Michael J. Fox for me to post 'Why Is This Commercial?" Likely...
Enjoy some video while you're at it (if'n this works right... and it doesn't - link works though... looks like i'm getting what i pay for)...

Moistboyz - I'm gonna kick your Ass

- The Moistboyz enter the fray... shades of Hilfiger vs. Rose. The Canadians are taking potshots and hiding behind their shoddy webhosting, not allowing a man (bar) to defend itself. Think of all the potential sales lost, the profits that could have been spent on purchasing all of the alternate covers of 'the record that might have been good if it had been released ten fucking years ago'.
